The HSIE Faculty has two key braches of study, Social Sciences and History.
Social Sciences introduces students to arts, humanities, civics and citizenship as well as social education. Our faculty is united with other faculties in achieving academic excellence. Opportunities exist for all students to achieve their potential through a range of subjects and activities.
Junior Geography, Commerce, Business Studies, Economics, Legal Studies and Senior Geography are offered. Learning in these subjects occurs both within and outside the classrooms. Technology supports our teaching in areas such as word processing, PowerPoint presentations, data bases and spreadsheets. Activities such as Mock Trials, competitions, running a business, field studies and links with universities provide our students with opportunities for enrichment as well as involvement in the society in which they live.
The study of History is fascinating. We find out how people lived, what things happened and why changes occurred. To do this, students learn about historians' work and experience the thrill of discovering our past. By increasing our understanding of the world, we can develop informed opinions on current affairs and increase our awareness of our identity and heritage as we learn about the history of our community and country. History also develops our knowledge and understanding of other societies and cultures.
We use many different resources in studying History inside and outside the school, including research activities, documentaries, computer programs and excursions. In the senior school students can choose from courses such as Modern History, Ancient History, Society and Culture and Studies of Religion.
