At Turramurra High School, we believe in the importance of preparing the leaders of our future. Leadership skills are vital for 21st century learners who need to embrace a world which values decisiveness, collaboration, emotional intelligence and assertiveness amongst other qualities.
Commencing in Year 7, there are numerous leadership opportunities for students at Turramurra High School. Our key leadership and decision-making body within the school is the School Leadership Team. There are also a number of specific programs where students develop their leadership skills.
Opportunities for student leadership are offered through:
- Student Leadership – Open to all students from Years 7 to 12 including our two school captains and two school vice-captains. Student Leadership nominations occur in term 1 with elections taking place early in term 2. Our new leadership team commences in term 3.
- The Duke of Edinburgh program – Open to students in Year 9 and up, there are numerous leadership opportunities within this very worthwhile program.
- Peer Support – Training is offered to nominated students in Year 10. This highly successful program teams our year 10 students with our new year 7 students to mentor them through their transition to high school.
- Lifesaving Instructors program – training and qualifications with the Royal Lifesaving Society are offered to nominated Year 10 students each year. These student instructors work with our younger students during their swim school program in term 4 each year.
