Year 7

Placement in Year 7 at Turramurra High School is highly sought after by families in our wider community.  Year 7 is an exciting year of transition and new opportunities for our students.

We offer a range of orientation activities for new students including an outstanding peer support program where student leaders in Year 10, mentor our new Year 7 students and assist them to get to know each other and our great school.

Year 7 Camp occurs in term one every year and is a great opportunity for students to establish lifelong friendships and to get to know their caring and dedicated teachers. There are always exciting stories of canoe trips, high ropes course and night time concerts to share upon return.

Year 7 Recognition Evening occurs in term two each year and is always an exciting night where we celebrate the success of every one of our Year 7 students. It is also an opportunity for students to recognise those people who have had a positive influence in their lives and in their success.

By the end of Year 7 our students are able to look back on a year of new experiences, new friendships and exciting opportunities to enhance their future learning.

Vaccinations - 2020

Each year NSW Health works in partnership with schools to offer the vaccines recommended by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) for adolescents as part of the school vaccination program.

In 2020 the following vaccines will be offered:

Year 7

Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine

2-doses at least 6 months apart

Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis(whooping-cough) vaccine

Single dose

The first vaccination clinic will occur on Monday February 17 in the MPC at Turramurra HS and it will be dose 1 of the HPV vaccine. You will receive further written advice later in the year prior to the next two vaccination clinics.

Parent Information Kits that include an information sheet, consent form and privacy statement have been given to students yesterday so that they may pass on to parents/guardians.

Parent Information Kit can be obtained from Mr Merrick's office on the ground floor of A block.

To consent to the vaccination of their child, parents/guardians are advised to:

·         read all the information provided

·         complete the consent form, including signing their name next to the vaccine/s  they would like their child to receive

·         return the completed consent form to their child’s school by no later than February 17 ( to the front officeat Turramurra HS)
·         ensure that their child eats breakfast on the day of the school vaccination clinic.

Please note that students who commence HPV vaccination in school clinics in Year 7 but do not complete the course during the school year may be offered catch-up doses at school in Year 8. Students who have any HPV doses at their GP will be advised to complete the course with their GP.

Parents/guardians who wish to withdraw their consent ( after initially providing consent ) for any reason may do so by writing to the school Principal or phoning the school. The Procedure for Withdrawal of Consent is available on the NSW Health website at .

To improve vaccination completion, students will be opportunistically offered any missed doses throughout the year where possible.

A Record of Vaccination will be provided to each student vaccinated at each clinic either as a physical card or a text message sent to the mobile number recorded on the consent form (within 1 business day). Parents/guardians should ensure that this record is kept for future reference and should not assume that their child has been vaccinated if they do not receive this Record of Vaccination.
